Spellcasters 2024
Back to Latest NewsOn Thursday 9th May, Year 5s from Baddow Hall, Barnes Farm, Beehive, Larkrise, Mildmay and St Andrews schools came to GBHS for our annual spelling competition: Spellcasters. Some of our student librarians helped by marking, scoring, serving refreshments and helping them feel welcome.
There were 7 rounds, including team, individual, quick fire and book and sport related, in preparation for the sporting events coming this summer. All students tried their best and enjoyed themselves, no matter what place they came in. Every team demonstrated great teamwork and perseverance from beginning to end with amazing confidence in spelling in front of everyone.
Student Report: Izzy Year 9
A huge well done to our winners, Baddow Hall! All the teams did an amazing job and had clearly practiced very hard. It was wonderful to see all the schools take part with such pride and determination and it was a very close event. The results were:
1st Place – Baddow Hall
2nd Place – St. Andrews
3rd Place – Barnes Farm
4th Place – Beehive Lane
5th Place – Mildmay
6th Place – Larkrise
Here is an example of one of the questions from our ‘Surprise Round’ for you to try at home. Teams were given a word wheel and asked to work out the 9 letter word and see how many other words they could make, containing the middle letter, in 30 seconds!
