Course Information

We are constantly responding to changes in education as the courses we offer reflect this. There is an option in the online application form to let us know of a subject you might be interested in.

Academic Study

All students have the opportunity to study either A Levels, vocational courses or a combination of both. We have three pathway opportunities open to students. The pathway they can chose will be based on their 'best 8 scores at GCSEs, including maths and the best English grade'. If a student has not passed GCSE maths or English, they will be required to resit this when they join the Sixth Form.

Pathway One

60 points or above

Students can take 4 A Levels or can take 3 A Levels and also the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). Students can also access any of the vocational qualifications.

Pathway Two

40 points or above

Students can take 3 A Levels or any of our vocational qualifications. If students have scored between 40 and 43 points we may recommend a combination of A level and Vocational courses.

Pathway Three

36 points or above

Students can access our vocational courses.

For A Levels, we recommend a minimum of a Grade 6 if you have taken a GCSE in that subject. For some subjects, e.g. Chemistry and Physics, a Grade 7 is required. For more details of the requirements needed for each subject, please see the course guide.

Option Block Choices

Once our applications have closed in December, we then work hard to create option blocks that allow for as many people as possible to access the choices they want. The option blocks for September 2025 will be available on the website once the Sixth Form team have spoken to students and finalised these.

We are also happy to provide Sixth Form tours to students wanting to join us from other schools. These take place following our Open Evening. Please email sixthformenquiries@gbhs.co.uk for more details.
