Funding Reports - Pupil Premium/Recovery Premium and 16-19 Tuition

At Great Baddow High School we have high aspirations for all of our students. We believe that they should all be given the opportunity to flourish and reach their full potential regardless of their background and prior attainment.

Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium Funding

The Pupil Premium and Recovery Premium funding is made available to us to help improve the attainment of our disadvantaged students.

Evidence shows that children from disadvantaged backgrounds face extra challenges in reaching their potential and often do not perform as well as their peers.

The Pupil Premium grant is designed to allow us to help disadvantaged students by further supporting their progress and the exam results they achieve.

Schools get Pupil Premium funding based on the number of pupils on-roll who:-

  • are eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been at any point in the last six years.
  • have a parent currently serving in Her Majesty’s Forces or is retired on a MoD pension.
  • have left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order (SCO) or child arrangement order.

It is for us to decide how the Pupil Premium Grant is spent since we are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individuals within our responsibility. We recognise that not all students who are academically and socially disadvantaged are registered to receive funding and we reserve the right to use this funding to support any student or group of students who we identify as being disadvantaged.

16-19 Tuition Funding

A number of individuals were unable to access learning during the restrictions placed in lockdown for a variety of reasons, including technical, emotional and home situations. Eligible students will be those who have been identified as being disadvantaged as per the guidance. Priority will be given to students who have not yet achieved a Grade 5 in Maths or English as these will fundamentally underpin their success at Level 3 courses.

As required by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and detailed in their document “16-19 tuition fund”, we are publishing this statement to explain how we will use the allocated funding allocated to Great Baddow High School.

Eligible students will be those who have been identified as being disadvantaged as per the guidance.

Priority will be given to students who have not yet achieved a Grade 5 in Maths or English as these will fundamentally underpin their success at Level 3 courses. The funding will be allocated to curriculum areas, prioritising English and maths and to support small groups of students (no greater than 5 students) who have shown a need to improve in specific areas or need more time with subject specialists. In cases where the emotional welfare is limiting the learning of these disadvantaged pupils, support will be given additionally to ensure they can access the academic rigour required. Tuition and support may be delivered using a blend of online and onsite delivery. The Great Baddow High school is committed to ensuring that the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Governments guidance on the 16-19 Tuition Fund by:

  • Producing this statement setting out how the fund will be used and ensuring that this statement is available on the school website.
  • Recording the use of the fund, including references to individual students as well as details as to the number of hours of tuition they received
  • Delivering the extra tuition and spend the allocated funds in the academic year 2022/23.
