Sixth Form Physics Students Inspired by Alumni Visit
Back to Latest News
Year 12 and 13 physicists attended a great presentation from a former Baddow student, Archie. Archie now works in an NHS radiotherapy physics department as a Trainee Clinical Scientist in the second year of the Scientist Training Program (STP).
Students gained a valuable insight into different career pathways and the opportunities for scientists within the NHS. They learnt how a linear accelerator (LINAC) works and how it is used to deliver radiotherapy treatments to cancer patients.
Many components were available to handle including a thyratron, multi-leaf collimator leaves and motors, tungsten targets, beam flatteners, beam bending assembly, radiation exposure monitoring badge and an ionisation detector.
Our thanks are extended to Archie for delivering such a detailed and fascinating talk and for bringing along so many interesting pieces of equipment.
